PORT ANGELES – A Sequim man died when his pickup crashed into a tree near Freshwater Bay on state Highway 112 early Sunday.
Douglas J. Hart, 44, was driving east on Highway 112 at about 6:30 a.m. when his vehicle veered left at about milepost 55.9, said the State Patrol.
The pickup crossed the centerline and the westbound land and crashed into a tree just past a slow-turnout lane, said the State Patrol.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreck, about eight miles west of Port Angeles, slowed traffic for about two hours after the road was narrowed to one lane in the immediate area while patrol officers investigated.
The State Patrol estimated that the 1994 Chevrolet K1 pickup was a total loss.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
Hart was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol.
Hart’s vehicle held no passengers and no other vehicles were involved.
