Sequim man dies after I-90 crash

SEQUIM — A 65-year-old man from Sequim has died from injuries suffered in a crash on Interstate 90 in Central Washington.

Alfred W. Crampton died Sunday evening at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from injuries sustained in the wreck Thursday morning on the freeway about 19 miles east of Ellensburg, the State Patrol reported Monday.

His wife, Theresa A. Crampton, 61, who was driving the pickup truck pulling a 26-foot travel trailer, remained in Harborview on Monday for treatment of a head injury. She was listed in satisfactory condition.

Troopers reported that the 2005 Ford F-150 pickup Theresa Crampton was driving was eastbound on the freeway at 11 a.m. Thursday when the trailer it was towing began to swing back and forth.

The trailer became unhitched and landed on its side, and the truck struck a guardrail and rolled down an embankment, landing on its wheels.

The Cramptons were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol reported.

Two lanes blocked

The wreckage from the 2008 Ridgecraft travel trailer blocked the two-lane eastbound I-90 for more than two hours midday Thursday.

Both lanes were reopened to traffic at 1:25 p.m.

A State Patrol memorandum, which noted that no intoxicants were involved in the wreck, said troopers recommended charges of allowing a trailer to oscillate.

Alfred Crampton was a Clallam Transit bus driver and received a commendation in 2008 for 25 years of continuous safe driving.

Theresa “Teri” Crampton has worked as a switchboard receptionist at Peninsula Community Mental Health and as a secretary at the former Fairview Elementary and Roosevelt Middle schools in Port Angeles.
