PORT ANGELES — A 39-year-old Sequim man has been convicted of domestic violence fourth-degree assault, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced.
Jonathan Sweeney was convicted by a jury in Clallam County District Court on April 26.
He pleaded guilty during the trial to other charges of displaying a weapon, obstructing law enforcement and resisting arrest, the prosecutor’s office said.
Sweeney was sentenced to 164 days in custody with credit for time served.
He also lost his right to possess firearms as a result of the domestic violence assault conviction, Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Sarah Acker said.
According to District Court documents, the victim drove to Sweeney’s residence to check on his elderly stepfather, who lived with Sweeney, and was refused entrance Nov. 15.
The prosecuting attorney’s office did not identify the victim except to say he was Sweeney’s uncle.
Sweeney punched his uncle in the face and caused him to black out, prosecutors said.
On Nov. 16, Sweeney threatened Clallam County sheriff’s investigators with a shotgun, saying, “Go ahead, shoot me,” court papers said.
Sweeney was arrested without further incident.
A witness confirmed that Sweeney struck his uncle multiple times in the head, prosecutors said.
Sentence
He was ordered to serve 80 days in the Clallam County jail followed by 84 days on electronic home monitoring, Acker said.
A notice of appeal of the domestic violence assault conviction was filed Monday in Clallam County Superior Court.
