PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man apparently in a hurry to arrive on time to court Friday afternoon slammed into a parked vehicle while attempting to pass traffic on the left shoulder, police said.
The wreck at East Front Street near North Jones Street was reported at about 2:30 p.m.
After speaking to Devon L. Rogers, 33, of Sequim and several witnesses, Port Angeles police said Rogers was in a hurry to get to court and was passing traffic in his white pickup truck on the left shoulder of the two-lane one-way street for westbound traffic.
As Rogers accelerated along the shoulder, his truck collided with a blue pickup truck that was parallel parked on Front Street, police say.
The force of the impact propelled the parked vehicle southwest into a tree on the sidewalk.
The blue truck was unoccupied at the time of the collision, police say.
Rogers was treated by medics at the scene.
Rogers was cited at the scene by Officer Whitney Fairbanks for reckless driving and driving without insurance.
Both lanes of Front Street were blocked while tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Police encourage anyone with additional information about this incident to contact Fairbanks, the primary investigator, at 360-912-0168.
