A Sequim man is among five people missing since Monday when the group’s charter floatplane did not reach its destination in southeast Alaska.
The Coast Guard launched a search Monday afternoon for Jim Murphy of Sequim, his twin brother Joe Murphy of Bremerton, and three other men who left Sitka en route to a wilderness lodge in Baranof Warm Springs aboard a Harris Air Beaver floatplane.
Two Coast Guard Air Station Sitka HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters, plus numerous volunteer crews, have scoured the most likely routes the plane might have flown, including water routes and forested areas.
Poor weather and low visibility have prevented crews from searching the interior of Baranof Island, said Coast Guard Operational Specialist David Foucault in Juneau.
They plan to search the interior when the weather improves, he said.
