SEQUIM — For John Lebowitz, the double failure of the schools maintenance and operations levy last year raised a red flag about moving here with his daughter from Maine.
Lebowitz, who recently purchased the Lehman building on East Washington Street, plans to do business in Sequim.
But he thinks Port Angeles might be a better place for his 11-year-old daughter to receive an education if school levies aren’t supported by the community.
“When I came here, I thought it’s crazy,” he said. “How can you not educate children?”
On Feb. 5, Sequim School District officials hope to reverse the trend of two failed levies last year with a successful levy election.
That’s the last day voters can return their mail-in ballots in the election.
