SEQUIM — The man rebuilding a former Washington Street grocery store into a complex of retail shops didn’t find Sequim by throwing darts at a map.
His wife’s great-aunt lives in Sequim.
“My great aunt is Myrt Entwhistle and she’s 99 years old,” Patty Lebowitz said Wednesday. “She told us Sequim is ‘the health spot of the world,”‘ Mrs. Lebowitz said.
John Lebowitz bought the building at 145 E. Washington St. in late 2001 from the Lehman family, which had operated Lehman’s Mark & Pak grocery store in it since Sequim’s early days.
The planned remodeling of the building, which began in mid-January, has turned into a rebuilding project.
Lebowitz said the building is all new, except for some portions of the roof and the concrete floor.
“It was much more extensive than I expected,” Lebowitz said.
