Sequim hustles, bustles with 3 bazaars; new shuttle service will help shoppers take it all in

SEQUIM — The fruits of Sequim’s fields and hands are coming together today and Saturday in three big bazaars.

To kick things off, the Sequim Open Aire Market presents the Indoor Home Holiday, its annual day-after-Thanksgiving party at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, 400 W. Fir St.

Several dozen artisans and produce vendors — plus chefs providing crepes, soup, cinnamon rolls and other treats — are to fill the club from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday.

The event was expanded to two days this year because of the local appetite for handmade goods, Open Aire Market manager Mark Ozias said.

Live music

On both days, local singers will provide live music from noon to 3 p.m.: Jeremy Cays will appear today and jazz chanteuse Sarah Shea will entertain on Saturday.

Admission to the Indoor Home Holiday is free.

On Saturday, the bazaar scene gets busier, so for the first time, a free shuttle will take Sequim shoppers around a circuit.

Throughout the day the bus will go from the market at the Boys & Girls Club to the Down Home Holiday sale at Sequim High School’s cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave., to the annual Lavender Growers Association bazaar at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., and back again.

Shoppers are invited to park at one of the venues and let the shuttle ferry them to the other two.

The Lavender Growers’ bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will display herbal goods from about 14 local farmers, said organizer Susan Zuspan.

Cameron’s of Sequim is catering the event, while visitors can buy tickets to drawings for numerous prizes donated by the lavender growers, including a lavender-decorated Christmas tree. Proceeds will benefit the Sequim Food Bank.

With its plethora of bouquets, sachets, scented eye pillows, seasoning mixes and essential oils, the lavender bazaar “is a beautiful show,” said Zuspan, who runs a home-based business called Let’s Do Lavender.

Meanwhile the school’s Down Home Holiday, another showcase of handmade gifts, is a fundraiser for Sequim High School’s Band Boosters. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
