Sequim house fire quelled

SEQUIM — No injuries were reported in a fire at a Sequim residence on the 200 block of North Dunlap Avenue earlier this week.

First responders from Clallam County Fire District 3 found smoke spilling from the rear of the two-story structure when they arrived on Wednesday.

The homeowners told firefighters that everyone was out of the residence and that the fire was downstairs in a back bedroom. They had tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher before calling for help.

“Smoke was down to the floor and fire was rolling across the ceiling in the hallway,” Assistant chief Dan Orr said. “Crews pushed the fire back to the room of origin and extinguished the fire.”

Fire investigators on scene determined that a battery charger to a small appliance appeared to be involved and was in the vicinity of the origin, Orr said.

The fire appeared to be accidental, he said.

The estimate of damage to the structure is approximately $300,000, and $100,000 for the contents.

The homeowners have insurance and family was on scene to assist with short-term housing, district officials said.
