SEQUIM — A high school food drive for the Sequim Food Bank will begin Monday.
The food drive, sponsored by the Sequim High School Associated Student Body, will run through Nov. 1.
During the drive, named “Boo Hunger!,” students are “determined to scare hunger away” by collecting canned food and nonperishable food items for the food bank.
The drive is led by junior Elise Beuke, ASB vice president and project manager.
“In previous years, the food drive has taken place just before Thanksgiving; however, it is apparent the need is there now,” said ASB faculty adviser and science teacher Jennifer Van De Wege.
Donation locations
There are various ways in which the food items will be collected:
■ Students are encouraged to bring food to their homeroom classes, called den classes, during the week in a competition between grades.
Food donations will be loaded into a truck and weighed on a drive-over scale at Blake’s Sand and Gravel before being delivered to the Sequim Food Bank.
The weight will be tracked to determine which grade collects the most food.
■ On Thursday, on Halloween night, 25 to 30 students will trick-or-treat for food drive donations instead of candy in many residential areas around town.
Sequim residents could consider purchasing canned food as well as candy for trick-or-treaters, organizers suggested.
■ Parents can bring food donations to parent conferences Nov. 1.
