SEQUIM — Five organizations working at three sites raised $5,558 in three hours Friday for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Earl Jones of Sequim, a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors, said the drive was conducted at the Safeway, QFC and Wal-Mart stores from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“People were so happy to donate,”‘ he said.
Other organizations participating in the fundraiser were the American Legion, Elks Club, Sequim Footprinters and Clallam County Sheriff’s Department.
The contributions were turned over to Major Hal Hads, corps commanding officer of the Salvation Army in Port Angeles, who said they will be sent to the Salvation Army in Jackson, Miss.
