SEQUIM — It’s a shiny new rig complete with cutting-edge technology, and ready to roll on emergency missions that could save countless lives.
With a $101,000 price tag, it’s also expensive — but the ambulance picked up last week by Clallam County Fire District No. 3 personnel was a holiday gift of sorts from a dedicated group of volunteers.
“What a great organization. These women have helped — not just the fire district, but their community,” said District No. 3 Chief Steve Vogel about the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild.
The guild is a 33-year-old service group which regularly pours dollars into fire district coffers.
The guild formed in 1970, and adopted the fire district as its chief beneficiary.
Since then, Vogel estimates, the guild has donated close to $1 million toward the purchase of a fleet of five aid cars and critical life-support equipment such as life-pack monitors and external cardiac pacemakers.
The newest ambulance was purchased using donations granted from 2000-02, Vogel said.
It was driven to the guild’s annual holiday luncheon Wednesday, where guild officers presented yet another check — this one for $25,000 — to Vogel and the district.
