SEQUIM — This is a crystallizing moment for the Phipps family.
Troy and Kelli Phipps met 11 years ago, soon after Troy’s family moved to Sequim from Roslyn, Kittitas County.
They became high school sweethearts and remained best friends.
“We survived all that high school drama,” said Kelli, smiling at her husband of almost six years.
This week the Phippses — Troy and Kelli, both 25; Trenton, 4, and Logan, who will be 2 in May — are moving into their new house on Maizie Court in Sequim.
They never expected to be homeowners.
“I’ve lived here all my life, and I always wanted to stay here,” said Kelli.
But with the price of real estate in Sequim, both she and Troy figured they’d always be renters.
Three years ago, Kelli went to a Habitat for Humanity information meeting and filled out an application for a Habitat home.
She and Troy found out a few weeks later that they qualified for a Habitat mortgage. They would pay just under $80,000 for a three-bedroom house in Sequim.
“Oh, my gosh, really?” was about all Kelli could say then.
Reality set in Sunday, when they joined the dedication ceremony at the Maizie house.
