Sequim Eagle Scout candidate leads park picnic table project

SEQUIM — A half-dozen picnic tables at Pioneer Memorial Park near downtown Sequim have received a significant makeover, thanks to a local Scout.

Eagle Scout candidate Calem Ryne Klinger was the project leader/coordinator for the partial reconstruction and refurbishing of six picnic tables located at the park in early October, as he helped facilitate the work completed by 15 participants.

Thomas Lumber donated the necessary supplies.

Klinger said that to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a candidate has to serve, coordinate, plan and execute a large-scale service project, and he chose the park picnic table project.

‘Learned a lot’

“(I) learned a lot of things that will help me in any job that I choose to go later on in life, and also make a good impact in the community,” Klinger said.

“It helped me develop quite a few experiences and realize some of the processes that are involved in leadership and carrying things out to achieve an end result.”

Members of Sequim Prairie Garden Club said they greatly appreciate Klinger’s choice to refurbish the park’s well-used picnic tables for his project, as well as Thomas Lumber’s generous contribution.

Garden club members regularly volunteer in maintenance of the park, though volunteers in the community are welcome to participate as well.
