PORT ANGELES — The woman charged in the deaths of three people in a New Year’s Eve car crash has pleaded innocent and may be allowed to leave the state this week to testify in a California trial.
Mary Kristine Kniskern, 26, of Sequim, pleaded innocent Friday morning in Clallam County Superior Court to three counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault stemming from the Dec. 31, 2002, car crash on Palo Alto Road that killed three people and injured Kniskern and two others.
Her trial is set for Aug. 11.
But Kniskern will return to court at 1 p.m. Tuesday as Superior Court Commissioner William Knebes considers an order from a California court for Kniskern to testify as a material defense witness this week in an acquaintance’s trial.
