SEQUIM — Dogs of all sizes make up the 195 entries for the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club’s annual Agility Trials on Saturday and Sunday in Sequim.
The canines will range from the 9.75-inch high Max — the nimble Chihuahua owned by Linda Chapler of Seattle — to 36-inch tall Tankus — the awkward Harlequin Great Dane owned by Kelly Ernst of Port Angeles.
“People line up to watch Tankus run the obstacle course,” Ernst said. “He’s so huge. It’s funny to watch.”
Weather should not be a problem for dog agility officials, who decided to move the event from fall to early spring this year after rain and wind chilled the 2000 event.
Sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, the Agility Trials will be held on Blake family property, just south of Carrie Blake Park. Admission and parking are free.
Competition will begin at 9 a.m. both days, with the final runs anticipated between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Each day will be considered a separate competition, so canines and handlers not performing well on Saturday have the opportunity to return Sunday.
