SEQUIM — A Tacoma developer with plans to build an 800,000-square-foot regional shopping center here says rigid design standards could drive away potential tenants because of associated costs.
Christopher Kang of Kang Development LLC made his remarks as the City Council discussed implementing interim design standards during a work session Wednesday.
The city Planning Commission spent two meetings modifying design standards used in Fort Collins, Colo., for implementation in Sequim, at least on an interim basis.
The rush toward putting design standards in place came after Kang submitted plans for the 12-building complex east of downtown.
Ruled incomplete, Kang’s application has been returned to him by the Planning Commission.
