SEQUIM — Two weeks after one of its most well-attended meetings, the City Council tonight is scheduled to discuss a rezoning that would open 72 acres for a regional shopping center.
The council meets at 7 p.m. in the community center, 190 W. Cedar St.
The rezone request by Bell Homestead LLC is for just more than 21 acres of land east of Brown Road.
If approved, it would give Bell Homestead acres of property zoned for use as a retail shopping center, an area stretching from the Sequim Avenue interchange with U.S. Highway 101 to Bell Road.
About 100 people attended the public hearing on the rezoning two weeks ago, filling every chair in the main room of the center and spilling over into a second room and the kitchen.
Most of the 29 speakers opposed the rezoning and many based their opinions on not wanting any regional shopping in Sequim. The council won’t be taking public comments on the application tonight.
