SEQUIM — Promising careful scrutiny of any future project, the City Council on Monday night approved rezoning 21 acres of property owned by Bell Homestead LLC from one commercial zone to another.
The rezoning paves the way for possible construction of a regional shopping center on about 72 acres of property between the Sequim Avenue interchange with U.S. Highway 101 and Brown Road.
About 75 people objected to the rezoning prior to the meeting.
Outside the council chambers, they carried signs reading, “No Silver Sequim,” “Say no to Sequimdale” and “No box retail stores.”
