SEQUIM — Plans for renovating the city’s community center are in limbo after cost overruns have jacked up the city’s share of matching funds required to join Clallam Transit Service in a federally funded grant project.
The City Council on Monday night voted to reject a bid accepted by Clallam Transit for construction of the project, which would restore the aged community center building on West Cedar Street that currently acts as a hub for transit service in Sequim.
“I think we owe it to the taxpayers to go out and re-bid on this,” Mayor Walt Schubert said.
The center also hosts several community and government meetings, including those of the City Council and Planning Commission.
Its bus usage made the project eligible for federal transportation funds.
