SEQUIM –– City Manager Steve Burkett has been given an “A.”
In a special retreat session over the weekend, the Sequim City Council gave Burkett a 9.1 score out of a possible 10 points on his annual performance review.
“We’re pretty happy with him,” Mayor Candace Pratt said.
“But we didn’t quite put him on the perfect level. Leave him something to strive for.
“The council recognizes that his abundant skills, based on knowledge and experience, have steered the city’s government to a very professional level.”
Pratt said the council did not discuss adjusting Burkett’s salary during Saturday’s session and had no immediate plans to do so.
Each of the seven council members rated Burkett in 12 categories: his commitment; knowledge and decision making; organization, planning and implementation; financial management; interagency relations; communications; management style and interpersonal skills; council/manager partnership; responsiveness; openness; employee relations and public relations.
“This reflects not just on my performance but that of the entire city staff and the great teamwork we have established with the City Council and our citizens,” Burkett said.
“Sequim is a great community and deserves the very best value in its city services,” he added.
Last year, the council gave Burkett a rating of 8.7.
That was followed by a 5 percent raise to bring his salary to $127,260.
