SEQUIM — Residency remained the major issue Monday as the City Council took action to approve a city Planning Commission ordinance.
Future commissions will be comprosed of five city residents and not more than two additional individuals who must live within the Sequim Urban Growth Area.
The composition of the planning commission became final Monday night after the council voted 4-3 to amend the proposed ordinance, which called for four members from the city and three from within the Sequim School District.
The actual ordinance gained unanimous approval.
“I am not convinced people within the city are not interested in serving on the commission, and I don’t think we have to concede to the entire school district to find commissioners,” said Councilman Paul McHugh, who supported the amendment.
Also voting in favor of five members within the city and two from within the urban growth area were Walt Schubert, Bill Huizinga and Dave Anders.
