SEQUIM — At least one party appealing the construction of two large retail projects in the city’s west side isn’t done fighting city hall.
Citizens group Sequim First, one of three appellants challenging the construction of a Wal-Mart and a regional shopping center near the intersection of Washington Street and River Road, announced on Tuesday they are taking their case to court.
The regional center, to be named Sequim Village Marketplace, would include a Home Depot home improvement warehouse and possibly an Albertsons Food and Drug.
Sequim First attorney Gerald Steel said he plans to file a lawsuit in Clallam County Superior Court on Aug. 29, asking a judge to do what the Sequim City Council wouldn’t do one month earlier — require that an independent analysis of environmental impacts be completed before allowing the retail giants to build “big-box” stores.
