SEQUIM — A four-year veteran to the Sequim Police Department and former social worker has been named as the new school resource officer, tasked with providing school and student safety.
Officer Tania Kohlman will take over the job Jan. 1, the Police Department said Friday.
“The school district will be getting a seasoned policing expert,”‘ Police Chief Robert Spinks said in a statement.
She takes over the position from Officer Dave Campbell, who is being promoted to sergeant.
Campbell took over the position in September, replacing Officer Kathy Barr, who died in July in an off-duty motorcycle collision.
The school resource officer program focuses on reducing crimes in schools and fostering relationships with young people.
