SEQUIM — The Clallam County Parks and Recreation District No. 1 board chairman wants voters to know the maintenance and operations levy on the Sept. 17 primary election ballot would provide funding for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center.
Voters living within the boundaries of the Sequim School District are the only ones who will see the measure on ballots mailed last week.
The six-year levy, if approved, will provide $260,000 annually to the recreation facility, 610 N. Fifth Ave.
Under the proposed replacement levy, property owners will pay 12 cents tax per $1,000 of assessed valuation, or $12 for the average $100,000 home. That’s 2 cents per $1,000 less than the current levy.
“People are calling me to ask where the SARC levy is on the ballot,” said Bill Black, chairman of the elected board that oversees operations of the aquatic center.
The ballot title, authored by deputy prosecuting attorney Chris Melly, makes no mention of the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, saying the levy it is for Park and Recreation District No. 1.
