Senior football players will get their night

Cancellation of final game forces rescheduling of annual event

FORKS — Seniors on the Forks High School football team will get to celebrate Senior Night this year, but it won’t be at half-time during their last regular-season game or in front of a crowd of family and friends seated in a brand-new stadium grandstand like they had wanted.

An investigation into an alleged assault during an away game lead to the cancellation of the former and construction challenges foiled the timely completion of the latter.

But the senior football players who would have been honored Thursday will still get a final-year send off.

The rescheduled Senior Night will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. under the lights on the field at Spartan Stadium. Afterward, the players cheerleaders and their families will be treated to a taco bar buffet in the school cafeteria.

Reaume said that completion of the new $3.5 million grandstand, which the district was hoping would be ready by Thursday this week, had been repeatedly postponed by construction delays.

“There was a mishap with some of the steel beams,” Reaume said.

“They were measured incorrectly so they had to be prefabricated and dipped in a special casing. And then there was the delay of the press box because they couldn’t get windows, so everything just kind of got bumped back.”

The new date for completion of the 1,136-seat modular and aluminum grandstand that replaced the 60-year-old wood grandstand is now sometime in December.
