U.S. Sen. Patty Murray is scheduled to visit the North Olympic Peninsula on Monday, according to her Washington, D.C., office.
Murray’s schedule begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Pope Marine Building, 500 Water St., Port Townsend.
Murray will joining local leaders to discuss $500,000 she secured two weeks ago to make transportation improvements in Port Townsend’s Historic District.
Murray secured the funding as the top Democrat on the Senate’s Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee.
The funding will support streetscape and transportation improvements.
The improvements will also support further development of the Northwest Maritime Center, which will showcase the regional significance of marine trades and maritime activities.
Development of the Northwest Maritime Center received $250,000 in federal funding last year.
After the announcement, there will be a brief tour of the areas that will be improved.
Trail dedication
At noon, Murray will attend an Olympic Discovery Trail dedication in Sequim.
Murray will join Clallam County commissioners, tribal leaders and volunteers for the ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony at the new footbridges on Olympic Discovery Trail.
Since 2001, Murray has supported $3.1 million in federal funding to establish 35 miles of the Discovery Trail and has also garnered funding to restore Jimmycomelately Creek and estuary.
The event will occur across from the Jamestown S’Klallam 7 Cedars casino off U.S. Highway 101 at the Sequim-Blyn footbridges on the Olympic Discovery Trail.
Veterans roundtable
At 1:15 p.m., Murray will attend a veterans roundtable at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., Port Angeles
Murray will listen to a panel of local veterans, doctors and advocates about the challenges that Clallam County’s 14,000 veterans face getting access to health care.
Murray, who attempted to boost funding for the Veterans Administration this year, will also discuss the outcome of that effort.
