Sen. Murray to talk about economy, health care, employment in Port Angeles, Sequim

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray will discuss youth employment, health care and the economy in Port Angeles and Sequim today and Thursday.

The senator will talk to the Port Angeles and Sequim Rotary Clubs about the economic rescue package, health care, veterans’ needs and her bill to help prepare young people with the skills needed to compete for jobs in the global economy.

The Port Angeles luncheon meeting will be at noon today at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St.

The Sequim luncheon meeting will be at noon Thursday at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.

At 1:15 p.m. today, Murray will tour Angeles Composite Technologies Inc., 2138 W. 18th St., Port Angeles, and the North Olympic Peninsula Skill Center.

After the tour, at 2:30 p.m., a round table discussion about local employment needs — and how to ensure that young people have the skills employers need — will begin at the skills center, 903 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.

Today’s tour and discussion will deal with Murray’s measure, “Promoting Innovations to 21st Century Careers,” that would provide incentives for communities, employers, and schools to work together, finding ways to open “career pathways” for young people.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, the senator will tour the Peninsula Children’s Clinic and the Olympic Medical Center emergency department to see the electronic medical records program.

At 9:15 a.m., she will be part of a round table discussion with doctors, administrators, and other health care workers at OMC, 902 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

The discussion on local health care priorities will include the challenges of caring for the rising number of seniors and local veterans care.
