NAVAL MAGAZINE INDIAN ISLAND — Naval Magazine Indian Island will conduct security training exercises today and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to Julianne Stanford, public affairs officer, the exercises will take place in the water near the ammunition pier’s port security barrier, as well as outside of the installation’s front gate across from Indian Island County Park.
During the exercises, community members living in surrounding areas might hear loud sirens, see blue flashing lights and notice an increased presence of harbor security boats on the water.
Passersby might also observe exercise participants who will be holding signs located at the park across the street from the installation.
The exercise Thursday will include objects floating in the water near the pier.
The Navy routinely conducts these types of security exercises, which ensures readiness and verifies response procedures, according to a press release.
