PORT ANGELES – A section of parking lane and sidewalk along Front Street, where an eight-inch water line burst Tuesday afternoon, will remain closed until the state Department of Transportation makes repairs.
Both travel lanes of the westbound roadway will remain open, but the traffic warning signs erected Tuesday will remain until repairs are made, said city spokeswoman Teresa Pierce.
City officials plan to meet with Transportation officials to discuss repairing the roadway, Pierce said.
No damage or repair estimates are available yet, she said.
The state Transportation Department is responsible for the roadway’s maintenance and repair.
That’s because Port Angeles’ population is below 22,500.
Cities with population above that threshold are responsible for maintenance and repairs of their own roadways.
The state Office of Financial Management estimated Port Angeles’ population at 18,970 in April 2006.
