Second online auction of surplus vehicles set by Clallam County

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Treasurer’s Office will open its second online auction for surplus county vehicles beginning Tuesday.

The auction will be at www.clallam.net, the county’s home page. To reach it, open the “online services” tab and click on “sale of surplus property.”

A list of the 20 vehicles to be sold, with photos and descriptions, is available now.

The auction is scheduled to run through Sept. 7.

County commissioners voted last month to amend a county policy to permit the online sale of vehicles, tools, law equipment and other surplus items.

The idea was to generate more interest in the sales and to eliminate the cost of moving items around and paying a private auctioneer at least $100 per vehicle in a live auction.

County Treasurer Judy Scott told commissioners July 6 the online auction is a “win-win situation” for the county.

Ten vehicles were sold in 10 days during the first online auction last month.

“The road department was very happy with the prices they got,” Chief Deputy Treasurer Teresa Marchi said.

Each of the online buyers settled their transactions within a week, Marchi added.

The second auction features 16 county vehicles and four vehicles seized by the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team.

Cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, a snow plow and an ambulance will go to auction.

A credit card and e-mail address are required to place a bid.

The Clallam County Treasurer’s Office will provide a computer for the public to view and bid on items during the auction.

The office is located on the main floor of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

A live viewing of the vehicles will take place Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clallam County Road Department, 1033 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

More surplus items will be posted on the county’s website and sold at a later date, Marchi said.

For more information on the auction, phone 360-417-2250.
