SHINE — The second of two closures of the Hood Canal Bridge was confirmed on Monday to run from Sunday night, Aug. 21, to Thursday morning, Aug. 25.
The 80-hour closure of the lifeline between the North Olympic Peninsula and the Puget Sound regions joins a previously announced confirmed closure that starts Thursday night, Aug. 11, and ends early Monday, Aug. 15.
Both closures, announced by the state Department of Transportation and the bridge renovation contractor, Kiewit-General Construction Co. of Poulsbo, will allow for unusual roll-off, roll-on replacement procedures of approach spans for each end of the 1.5-mile floating bridge.
Monday’s confirmation of the second closure period — to allow time for replacement of the Jefferson County approach, including a new overhead steel truss section — now gives Peninsula residents the opportunity to note the exact closure and reopening times in their appointment calendars:
* First closure: 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15.
* Second closure: 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, to 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.
