OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST — Search and rescue teams continued to comb the Gray Wolf River drainage south of Sequim on Wednesday for a 24-year-old hiker who went missing last weekend.

Jeremiah Adams, a Navy sailor stationed on the Bremerton-based USS Nimitz, was last seen Friday when he left for a hike in Olympic National Forest.

“We’re still out there looking,” Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict said at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Adams failed to rendezvous with friends for a hike on Saturday, Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Brian King said.

Adams is described as being about 5-foot-9-inches, 150 pounds with blue eyes and short blond hair.

Fellow sailors found Adams’ 2013 Ford Fiesta parked at the Lower Grey Wolf trailhead Monday night.

The trailhead off Palo Alto Road provides access to the heavily forested, 44,258-acre Buckhorn Wilderness.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is leading a multi-agency search that includes Clallam, Kitsap and Mason county search and rescue teams, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 and Navy personnel.

“The Navy gave us, like, 75 people,” Benedict said.

U.S. Coast Guard and Navy helicopters have been scanning the area for any sign of Adams. Search dogs have been deployed, King said.

“No new clues,” King said after searching the area late Wednesday afternoon.

“We’re still focusing on the lower Gray Wolf trail, but we did significantly expand our search today, which included some search teams going into remote locations by helicopter to check some areas.”

Swift water rescue teams have looked up and down the Gray Wolf River from where Adams’ car was found, King said.

The Sheriff’s Office had not decided what today’s search would entail because crews were still on scene, King said.

Anyone with information on Adams’ whereabouts is asked to phone the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office at 360-417-2459.
