More than one-third of the tax levy ballots distributed to voters in the Port Angeles School District have been returned to the Clallam County Auditor’s Office after only one week of balloting.
Of the 18,559 ballots sent out last week in the all-mail election for the $12.7 million, two-year maintenance and operations levy, 6,427 — or 34.63 percent — had been returned by Wednesday afternoon, Auditor Cathleen McKeown reported.
The pace is faster than it was for returns in the school district’s February four-year levy attempt, which failed by nearly 5 percent below the required 60 percent supermajority approval.
Balloting in the current levy election continues until May 17 at 8 p.m.
