School holiday concerts underway on North Olympic Peninsula

PORT ANGELES — ‘Tis the season for children’s voices to sing carols and young musicians to demonstrate their holiday repertoires.

The winter holiday season of school concerts is underway, and concerts will continue in most North Olympic Peninsula communities through Dec. 18.

The biggest student concert of the year is the Port Angeles High School Holiday Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave.

Four bands, three orchestras and four choirs, as well as a massed symphonic performance, will include traditional and modern holiday music and a sing-along.

The two-hour concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the music program.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early for the popular annual event showcasing student musicians.

The holiday music extravaganza typically attracts an audience of about 1,200.

Numerous other holiday performances are scheduled this month in both Clallam and Jefferson counties:

Port Angeles

■ Stevens Middle School orchestra holiday concert, 7:30 p.m. today at Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St.

■ Hamilton Elementary Winterfest Concert for grades 4-6, 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton, 1822 W. Seventh St.

■ Dry Creek Elementary winter music concert for grades 4-6, 6 p.m. Thursday at Dry Creek, 25 Rife Road.

■ Franklin, Roosevelt and Jefferson sixth-grade choirs and band, 7 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St.

■ Roosevelt and Hamilton combined bands, 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at Roosevelt Elementary School, 106 Monroe Road.

■ Port Angeles High bands, orchestras and choirs, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at Port Angeles High, 304 E. Park Ave.

■ Jefferson and Hamilton elementaries’ combined grades 3-5 band and orchestra, 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Jefferson Elementary.

■ Stevens Choir holiday concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Stevens.

■ Stevens Band holiday concert, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at Stevens.

Sequim

■ Sequim Middle School band holiday concert, 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road.

■ Sequim Middle choir holiday concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sequim Middle.

■ Sequim High School choir holiday concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

■ Helen Haller Elementary holiday concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Helen Haller, 350 W. Fir St.

Forks

■ Forks Junior and High School band concert, 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Forks High, 261 Spartan Ave.

■ Forks Elementary School holiday concert, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the school, 301 S. Elderberry Ave.

Neah Bay

■ Neah Bay Elementary school winter concert, 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at Neah Bay High School, 3560 Deer St.

Joyce

■ Crescent School all-grades holiday music concert, 6 p.m. Thursday at Crescent School, 50350 state Highway 112.

In Jefferson County, the Port Townsend High School and Blue Heron Middle School orchestras opened the season Saturday at Winter Stringfest, but the district music program and other districts in the county still have more to offer.

Port Townsend

Brinnon
