Saturday Port Angeles market returns temporarily to courthouse

PORT ANGELES — The Saturday Port Angeles Farmers Market will return to the Clallam County Courthouse parking lot on Saturday and on three other weekends because of scheduling conflicts at The Gateway transit center.

In addition to Saturday, the market will be in the parking lot of the courthouse at 223 E. Fourth St. on Sept. 19, Sept. 26 and Oct. 10 also.

The Saturday market will return to The Gateway’s pavilion, at Lincoln and Front streets, Oct. 3 and then again Oct. 17.

The Wednesday market, located at the facility, won’t be affected.

Previously scheduled

Port Angeles Deputy Recreation Director Richard Bonine said the pavilion is booked on Saturday for TwilightFest, on Sept. 26 for an event called “Shop the Port Angeles Gateway” and on Oct. 10 for the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival.

Bonine could not recall Thursday evening what is booked for Sept. 19.

He said Shop the Port Angeles Gateway, organized by Linda Cutler, wife of city Public Works and Utilities Director Glenn Cutler, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include vendors, live music and drawings.

The farmers market board members and executive director are seeking a contract with the city to reserve Wednesdays and Saturdays at The Gateway’s pavilion for its two markets.

The Wednesday market has been located there since July 1.

It previously was located at Laurel and First streets.

The Saturday market used the facility Sept. 5, Aug. 29, Aug. 22 and Aug. 15.

The market board, after a majority of the vendors voiced support for moving to the location, chose to seek a long-term presence at The Gateway after two separate free trials.

The city is charging $75 a day to rent the pavilion.
