Santa Claus to make stops in Port Townsend, Nordland

PORT TOWNSEND — Santa Claus is coming to town this weekend.

Santa will ride in a horse-drawn carriage to the Haller Fountain to preside over the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, he will sail to Marrowstone Island, arriving at the dock in front of the Nordland General Store at noon.

Some shops are offering the 2010 Port Townsend limited-edition ornament, which features the new ferry on the Port Townsend-Coupeville route, the MV Chetzemoka.

Proceeds will benefit the Port Townsend Main Street Program.

The Main Street shopping sweepstakes is in progress at 36 businesses.

The last chance to enter the $1,000 Hometown Holiday Sweepstakes and win a $1,000 shopping spree will be at noon Saturday.

On Saturday, many shops will stay open late, offering refreshments and specials, while the Wild Rose Chorale group will sing Christmas carols on the streets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and James Arsulich of Port Townsend Livery & Carriage Co. will provide, for a fee, horse and carriage rides through downtown from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., Santa Claus will visit with children at Flagship Landing, 1007 Water St.

Taylor Street will be closed to traffic from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Nordland Santa

On Sunday, Santa Claus will visit Mystery Bay on Marrowstone Island.

The Water Limousine, a heated and enclosed vessel, will leave John Wayne Marina, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road, for a cruise to Mystery Bay at 10 a.m.

The cruise should arrive at Mystery Bay at 11 a.m., and passengers can disembark to visit the general store for goodies or lunch before seeing Santa Claus.

Cost is $85 for the cruise.
