MARROWSTONE ISLAND — More searching in Kilisut Harbor on Sunday turned up no clues about the whereabouts of two men who disappeared Oct. 9 while checking crab pots.
The men, Walter Mead, 59 and Sean Pickering, 42, both of Chimacum, are presumed dead.
Libby Wennstrom, chairwoman of Salish Rescue, said a pair of students continued the search for the two men on a 15-foot Zodiac on the nearshore of the Indian Island side of the harbor on Sunday.
Mead and Pickering’s boat was found in the area of the Fort Flagler dock.
Wennstrom said Salish Rescue plans to continue searching the area for the foreseeable future. She said something could be found soon, or it’s possible no sign of the pair will be found.
“We can keep going out. At some point, the chances of recovery is pretty low,” she said.
However, she said Salish Rescue is “hoping to find them so the families can have some closure.”
Wennstrom emphasized the importance of wearing life vests in a boat.
“Please, people should wear life jackets,” she said.
