PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center commissioners will get an update on Virginia Mason Medical Center’s sale of its Port Angeles clinic this week.
Virginia Mason announced Sept. 28 that it would sell the clinic at 433 E. Eighth St.
Patti Crome, senior vice president and clinic administrator, said the clinic has not remained financially viable despite logging more than 19,000 patient visits in the past two years.
Virginia Mason has owned the clinic since 1995. It previously operated independently for 50 years.
The clinic remains open and continues to see patients, and the transition to a new owner is expected to last at least six months.
As the clinic’s main competitor, Olympic Medical Center has been mentioned as a possible purchaser.
However, Jim Leskinovitch, president of Hospital District No. 2 commissioners, has called the idea “really speculative.”
The commissioners’ meeting will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Linkletter Hall in the basement of Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.
