NORDLAND — A man died in a recreational vehicle fire on Marrowstone Island early Saturday, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue officials said.
The man, who was not identified by authorities, was found dead in a 30-foot-long fifth wheel that burned at Smitty’s RV Parkat 9142 Flagler Road, agency spokesman Bill Beezley said.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and County Coroner will identify the deceased after next of kin has been notified, Beezleysaid.
The fire was reported at 6:06 a.m. after neighbors heard noise outside and found the RV fully engulfed in flames, Beezleysaid.
“It was completely engulfed when our people got there,” Beezley said in a Saturday interview.
Firefighters from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Naval Magazine Indian Island and Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue knocked the firedown by about 6:30 a.m.
“We appreciate the assistance of our naval partners,” Beezley said.
“They were the first ones on the scene and the first to put water on the fire.”
The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday. Jefferson County Undersheriff Art Frank said the fire was notconsidered suspicious.
Beezley said it may be difficult to determine a cause of the fire because of the extent of the damage to the RV.
“It could end up being a challenge to actually say definitively that it started because of this,” Beezley said.
He added: “It will probably be tomorrow until we hear anything definitively.”
