Olympic Medical Center Foundation will present Olympic Medical Center with more than $53,000 raised by 40 volunteers at the hospital district’s board of directors’ meeting Wednesday.
Team OMC, which the group of volunteers who support community health needs calls itself, raised money for cardiac services, the cancer center, the hospital emergency department and the obstetric unit.
They raised the funds by running in Phoenix on Jan. 9 at the P.F. Chang’s Arizona Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon.
“Team OMC really surpassed Olympic Medical Center Foundation’s expectations,” said foundation director Bruce Skinner.
The team included Nia Forster, who was treated in 1998 for Hodgkin’s disease at Olympic Medical and Olympic Medical Cancer Center in Sequim and who wanted to do something in return.
“I’ve been looking for a way to give back to the cancer center for what they have done for me,” says Forster, who now lives in Boise, Idaho.
Forster and fellow Team OMC member Sandy Sinnes topped the individual fund-raising efforts. Forster raised more than $4,200.
“I was shooting for $2,000, so this was great,” she said.
The foundation is looking forward to next year’s Arizona marathon and looking for more volunteers to join Team OMC. Participants will receive professional coaching, nutritional and training advice and more.
