Roundabout work to begin Monday in Sequim

SEQUIM — Work crews will move into the roundabout at Sequim Avenue, Old Olympic Highway and Port Williams Road beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.

The work, part of the North Sequim Avenue sidewalk and bike lanes project, will be performed between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.

Drivers can expect delays, localized closures and detours during work hours and are encouraged to use alternate routes where available.

Resident access will be provided, although residents are asked to heed flaggers, cones, construction signage and to be aware of large construction equipment and trucks and their backup alarms.

Emergency vehicle access will be provided at all times and emergency vehicles will be allowed to drive through the work zone during an emergency.

When the work on the roundabout is complete, residents will see bike and pedestrian crossings as well as a less perpendicular road alignment into the roundabout that should improve traffic flow, said Nick Dostie, an engineer with the city.

The overall project, which involves construction on North Sequim Avenue, Old Olympic Highway, Sequim Dungeness Way and Port Williams Road, is scheduled for completion in June.

The work is being performed by Interwest Construction and its subcontractors.
