Rossi adds Port Angeles to campaign swing on Peninsula Aug. 13

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi, who is challenging U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Freeland, in her bid for a fourth six-year term, has added a Port Angeles appearance to his schedule for Friday, Aug. 13.

On that date he will also visit Port Ludlow and Brinnon.

Rossi, two-time GOP candidate for governor, will begin the day with a meet-and-greet at 9 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Rossi will appear at a fundraiser in a Port Ludlow private home at about noon, and then travel to south Jefferson County for a barbecue at 4 p.m. in Brinnon.

Rossi’s North Olympic Peninsula appearances will be four days before the Aug. 17 primary, where the top two vote-getters will move on to the Nov. 2 general election, regardless of party affiliation.

Rossi is considered the most serious challenger to Murray. Thirteen other candidates are on the ballot.

Port Angeles

In Port Angeles, Rossi will speak for perhaps five or 10 minutes before talking with people individually, said Mark Marinaro, Republican precinct committee officer for Blue Mountain Precinct 209, who is hosting the event.

“He’s going to be here about an hour or an hour-and-a half,” Marinaro said, adding that the free event is open to the public.

The Port Ludlow fundraiser luncheon will be at the home of Robert and Barbara Phinizy, 20 Bluebird Lane.

The 4 p.m. barbecue will be at the Ian and Glennis McFall residence, 284 Cormorant View Drive, Brinnon.

Both the noon fundraiser and 4 p.m. barbecue are free or by donation, said Edeltraut Sokol, Rossi’s Jefferson County chairperson.

“He’ll meet people and greet people and give a little speech,” she said.

Sokol said in a statement that Rossi would work for lower taxes, predictable regulations and controlling government spending through “revamping government agencies for efficiency and an agency’s actual relevance in the everyday life of Americans.

“Dino has been traveling the state meeting with folks who believe we need to change the direction our country is headed in if we’re going to get our economy back on track and put people back to work,” Sokol said.

“Dino has visited with small-business owners all over the state and heard their concerns and listened to their ideas on how to jump-start the economy and get Washingtonians working again.”

For the Port Ludlow and Brinnon appearances, RSVP to Sokol at 360-531-1181.
