Roosevelt students slate spaghetti feed fundraiser for hurricane victims

PORT ANGELES — Roosevelt Middle School seventh-grade teachers and students will hold a spaghetti feed fundraiser to assist hurricane relief efforts from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 6.

The feed will take place inside the school’s gym at 106 Monroe Road.

Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.

Tickets will be $5 per person or $20 per family. They can be purchased in advance or at the door.

For more information, call Roosevelt Middle School at 360-452-8973.

The first grade class at Olympic Christian School in Port Angeles raised more than $100 to be donated to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in just one week.

A student in the class asked if the classmates could collect pennies for homeless children, referring to stories she had heard about hurricane evacuees.

The plan was approved and the first-graders went to work.

“As part of their homework,” said Kathy Tucker, first grade teacher, “the students were asked to do a few chores to earn some money.

“Participation was optional but the results were amazing. This class of 17 students earned over $103, mostly in change.

“Some funds came from doing chores and some came straight from their piggy banks.”

The first-graders enjoyed a popcorn party Friday as a thank you from their teacher.
