Roadwork planned in west end of Olympic National Park

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Work on roads in the west end of Olympic National Park will begin Monday.

Roads will be reduced to one travel lane while the contractor is working, and flaggers and pilot cars will be on-site to assist with traffic. Delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected.

The Federal Highway Administration awarded a $3.3 million contract to Intermountain Slurry Seal Inc. of Reno, Nev., to complete the project to extend the life of asphalt pavement in the Quinault, Kalaloch, Hoh and Mora areas.

Repair and improvement of pavement on roads, parking lots and campgrounds in the eastern section of the park was completed in 2016.

The project will be completed in phases and will occur on weekdays only, with the entire project expected to be completed by Aug. 18.

The project includes crack sealing and cleaning, pavement patching, microsurfacing and new pavement markings and signs.

The work will begin this week in the North Shore Quinault area, with crews patching pavement along Quinault North Shore Road, the July Creek picnic area parking lot and the Quinault Ranger Station from Monday through May 12.

From May 15-19, crews will patch pavement and do crack sealing and cleaning at the Kalaloch Information Station, Utility and Residence Road, and the Kalaloch Campground.

For current road and travel information, see www.nps.gov/olym or call the recorded hotline at 360-565-3131.
