By Jon C. Bugher Fire Chief, Clallam County Fire District No. 2
Clallam County Fire District No. 2 responded to a subject with serious burns last night. Apparently the patient’s injuries were the result of a new fad, “lighter tag.”
This new game is played by teenagers and young adults who squirt lighter fluid on each other and then ignite the clothing. The individual who is tagged then runs and beats the flames out before tagging another player.
The patient was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of the injuries.
District 2 would like to caution parents, teenagers and young adults that playing any kind of game with flammable liquids is very risky and can result in serious, even life-threatening injuries.
Should your clothes catch on fire, immediately Stop, Drop (DO NOT RUN) to the ground and Roll over and over until the flames are extinguished.
The district responded with two paramedics and several EMTs who stabilized the patient and transported the patient to Olympic Medical Center for treatment.
