Reservoir leak fixed, but Clallam PUD water emergency still in effect into weekend

PORT ANGELES — A reservoir leak that prompted water conservation measures over a wide area east of Port Angeles was fixed Wednesday.

But the conservation measures remain in effect at least into this weekend to ensure that the repairs hold and the reservoir is refilled, a Clallam County Public Utility District official said.

A broken weld at the bottom of the PUD’s Deer Park reservoir triggered the water emergency in the Fairview Water System that began Tuesday, said Water Superintendent Mike Kitz.

Water is being bypassed around the reservoir to maintain water service to customers, but such activities as car-washing and yard-watering should be avoided temporarily, Kitz said.

The 200,000-gallon reservoir had to be drained to locate and repair the leak, he said.

Filling the reservoir will take another day or two before water restrictions can be lifted, Kitz said.

The district’s Fairview Water System customers will be notified as soon as possible when service is fully restored, he said.

The affected areas include Morse Creek to Shore Road, Township Line Road north to the bluffs, and all areas off U.S. Highway 101 from Morse Creek to Shore Road — including North and South Bagley Creek Road, Lake Farm Road and Lewis Road.

Other affected areas include all areas off Deer Park Road, Township Line Road and O’Brien Road, and all areas off Old Olympic Highway from the State Patrol office to Spring Road, including Gasman Road, Gehrke Road, Finn Hall Road and the bluffs.
