PORT ANGELES — Reservations must be made by today for a Sept. 30 dinner and movie to benefit Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics.
The movie, about the healing powers of friendship and art, will screen after dinner.
“The Cats of Mirikitani,” the story of Jimmy Mirikitani of New York City, is part of the Healthy Harvest dinner, a fundraiser for the VIMO clinic, which provides health care to local residents who otherwise would have no access to it.
Tickets are $75.
To order, phone 360-452-8656 or email mphannah@olypen.com.
Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St., is the venue for the dinner and movie screening.
The evening will start with a social hour at 5:30 p.m.
Linda Hattendorf, the documentary filmmaker behind “The Cats of Mirikitani,” will be on hand to talk about the movie, a portrait of a man who survived the trauma of World War II internment camps and homelessness by creating art.
The movie has won top awards at film festivals in New York City; Sun Valley, Idaho; Washington, D.C.; Paris and Tokyo.
Another screening of “The Cats of Mirikitani” is open to the public Saturday, Oct. 1, in Linkletter Hall at Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St.
Admission to the 3 p.m. showing will be $5.
