SEQUIM — A deer hunter remained in good condition at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles on Sunday with injuries he suffered in a fall in the upper Dungeness River basin.
David Lee McLean of Gig Harbor was rescued from a mountain ridge near Tyler Peak on the border of the Buckhorn wilderness Saturday afternoon.
McLean was hunting with his father, Bob, and a friend, Luke Biondolillo of Lynden, at about 9 a.m. when rock broke loose beneath him, causing him to fall and break his leg.
A fourth hunter, Craig Taylor of Sequim, heard McLean’s calls for help and fired his rifle into the air three times to summon aid.
The isolated location at 3,720 feet prevented the hunters from using their cell phones, so Biondolillo hiked off the ridge and drove out of the mountains to call 9-1-1.
Fire District 3 was dispatched to the area at about 10:20 a.m. and requested assistance from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team.
