Report of burglary in Sequim leads to the arrest of both the accused and the homeowner

SEQUIM — A report of an early morning burglary led to two arrests, including that of the homeowner who reported the break-in.

Robert D. Akin, 38, was booked for investigation of second-degree burglary, a pay-or-appear warrant and three failure-to-appear warrants.

He remained in the Clallam County jail Saturday on $2,500 bail.

The owner of the Mountain View Drive home, Michael Pimentel, 56, was arrested for investigation of possession of drugs and intent to deliver after deputies found about $3,500 in cash, as well as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, said Sgt. Lyman Moores of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Pimentel was not listed on the jail roster Friday.

Moores said Pimentel called 9-1-1 at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

He said he had awakened to a noise inside his home and found a man he held at gunpoint to await authorities.

A struggle ensued. Moores said emergency dispatchers heard a confrontation between the two men.

Pimentel told deputies he hit the man over the head with his pistol and that he fled.

During the confrontation, a knife came out of the man’s pocket, Pimentel told investigators, Moores said.

Pimentel was concerned that the intruder or a possible accomplice was armed with a .22 rifle from his home.

About 10 minutes later, Akin was arrested by Deputy Ralph Edgington after he was found walking through a neighbor’s yard with a laceration on his head, Moores said.

He was treated at Olympic Medical Center before being booked.

Akin told law enforcement he wasn’t burglarizing the home; instead, it was a drug deal gone bad, Moores said.

Deputies found that Pimentel had been under investigation by the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team for allegedly possessing and dealing drugs to undercover OPNET team members, Moores said.

Later that day, deputies searched Pimentel’s home with a search warrant and found cash and drugs, Moores said.

Deputies found that Pimentel’s front window had been pried open and a bookcase was moved as though an intruder had shifted it when coming through the window, Moores said.

Images from a surveillance tape showed a man coming out of a bedroom and Pimentel forcing him to the ground and hitting him, Moores said.
